My second Adventure.....
My second adventure takes me to a place I never knew existed, Jacobs Ladder and Cheddar Gorge. When told about Jacob's Ladder the only thing that popped in my head was a movie with Tim Robbins in it and a science experiment with electricity. Unknown to me it was an actual place, 100 foot vertical of steps. What a climb I did with those steps, the steps was just the beginning of the Cheddar gorge nature hike. Boy was I not, totally not prepared for the nature hike. I wore these walking shoes I had with a flat sole, that means no kind of traction at all, and some regular jeans and jacket.
Well lets first talk about my four hour car drive there. Still driving illegally, but this is probably my last car trip since I'm about to sell the car anyway. Still might get a UK license just for show. Well the trip was about 162 miles one way, I think but it was much better than my trip to Stonehenge. No rain or fog, well just little shower here and there but nothing bad at all. I made one major wrong turn that took me into London instead away from it, but that was the only major wrong turn I had. Other than that it was a straight forward ride, well it was up until I came off the major roads and into the small villages that lead to the gorge. I mean villages so small there are no side walks, the front gates meets the roads and even in some areas only room enough for one car at a time to pass. That is where my map failed me and I had to turn to my trusty GPS. The GPS was good but still had plenty of trouble finding the streets I needed, well just one street really, had me going in circles until I just took a path that was closest to my route and I got there that way.
When I got there I hit the path right away, walked up the 100 foot stairs, and took plenty of photos. That area it seems to be very wet with on and off showers, but I was warned about the condition of the trail, but I went anyway. The trail was wet, muddy, slippery and made me nervous. When I finally get the photos developed I will show how the trail was, it makes the term slippery when wet don't sound very sexy anymore. I mean mud, wet leaves, wet rocks, I was using every fiber of my being to make sure my ass doesn't hit the ground. I knew my shoes and jeans was going to get fucked up and muddy, but that was all I was prepared to do. As I walked the trail I kept thinking what my cousin said, "Its better in the summer", and boy did I need that sun and heat that day. It seems everything is better in the summer, well in that country when almost everything outside on London is based on nature, everything is better in the summer.
Well I must say it was very beautiful out there, just a bit cloudy, typical UK weather, but just imagine is the lovely sun was shining how much better it would have all been. Just thoughts to myself, I should have took in all the site as soon as I got there and not wait so late in the year to explore the UK. The Cheddar gorge was nice, it was basically a two part hike, half on one side, half on the other. I only walked one half since I didn't want to put my life in anymore danger. I must admit I my body never touched the ground on the hike, just twice my hands did, only my hands. After I reached the top and was working my way down the hill the path got ugly, and I mean ugly. I thought going up was bad, but down was down right nasty. It was muddy, so muddy I stepped in a few places and my shoe nearly came off, shit got stuck in the fucking mud, and kept getting stuck. Just fucking nasty. Then on the very end they had the nerve to have two paths, on very steep and muddy, the other just regular steep and muddy. I just laughed and went down the easier one.
That took about an hour, was told the whole trail is about two hours which came out right if I took the other half of the journey. I took the easier path of walking on the road back, which was a little bit easier and also wanted to get Photos from the ground so I can appreciate the size of the gorge. Now thinking I'm on the easier path to my car, on this path is where I busted my ass, not once but twice. There was this rocky little climb I took, looked dangerous but I walked up it, took some shots and worked my way down. I was almost all the way down and oops, I fell and busted my ass. Damn I said, but kept it moving. Then while still walking back to the car, I fell again on some slippery road, I said damn, what the fuck! I was soo pissed, thinking that the hike took all my energy and confidence and this happens taking the easier path.
Well once I got back to my car, I turned on my GPS and went the hell home. GPS was nice no problems getting back home. Next morning, today woke up my whole entire body is tight and sore, that rip took everything out of me. I'm talking about eight hours of driving, two hours of hiking and walking, with very little to eat. Man I think I slept most of the day and still a bit tired now. As soon as I develop my pics we all can try to enjoy my adventures. Peace!!

I like to travel off season - you get the place to yourself practically. Sounds like quite a trip, glad you are enjoying yourself as you explore the UK.
